Moving care up a notch. There are two categories of Movement Disorder Centers (MDC). Those that exist in reality and those that exist only in a slick brochure. The idea of a MDC is a one stop shop for the treatment of PD. A patient is usually sent all over town to attend the various therapists that might be of benefit. Some examples of beneficial therapists might include speech and swallowing therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, neuropsychologist, dietician, pain therapist, social worker and possibly a referral to a local community organization that can help with any questions that might arise. The trick is to get all these providers working together under the same roof, as a team, to treat the patient not just a symptom. This is assuredly the only way to do business to insure a patient’s highest quality of life.
