Tips and Tricks
I’ve seen a lot of creative ideas to try and unstuck one’s feet from the floor when they just don’t want to move. Some of the solutions include a visual cue to help make that next step. This cue can come in any number of forms. Masking tape lines on the carpet or floor every 12” or so. These lines are cues you step over. This can be very helpful in doorways, the tight confines of the bathroom or any place you find your feet getting routinely stuck. Some find it useful to have a handheld laser pointer handy and use it to shine a dot in front of their feet and step over the dot. Throwing a penny onto the floor or any other small object and then stepping over it. Using balled up socks or something similar to kick along the floor in front of you. Some find benefit in rocking back and forth on your feet while chanting “one, two, one, two” in a marching rhythm until the feet come unglued from the floor. Some also find ease of movement if they think of a tune in their head and initiate a dance step rather than walking.
