Who does it benefit

It is said that 12% to 15% of those touched by PD are good candidates and eligible for DBS surgery. Unfortunately, since the procedure is marketed to the entire PD population, many patients that aren’t candidates get false hope. Even worse, some patients that are not good candidates still receive the surgery with poor outcomes. Due to the marketing, some patients bypass their clinician and go straight to the neurosurgeon for too quick an evaluation and potentially less than optimum results. This is a process that can be a tremendous benefit but certain milestones must be met to insure the best possible outcome.
