Restraints

Mom was still a little spaced the first night in the post op ward and at one point tried to get out of bed to go to the restroom not knowing that she had a catheter. The nurse on duty decided to put her in restraints (straps around wrists and connected to the side of the bed) so she didn’t get out of bed. This process traumatized her more than any other part of the surgery process. There are other means of making sure a patient doesn’t leave the bed – make sure they know restraints are not to be used.
