Information
It has been studied and proven over and over again that regular exercise is one of the most critical tools in maximizing your quality of life with PD. It has also been shown that regular exercise can also be neuroprotective and help slow the progression of PD. “Use or lose it!” is the motto of the day. There are many PD specific exercise tapes, DVDs, websites, etc. available. I would also say that any instruction would be useful and certainly doesn’t have to be PD specific. Use any materials or program that is easy for you to follow and something that keeps your interest enough to stay with it. Find routines that provide stretching and increased range of motion. Some wonderful results have been found practicing Tai Chi, Yoga, water exercise classes and even simply walking for awhile each day is beneficial. Over the many years I have seen those patients that do exercise on a regular basis and those that don’t. It’s a night and day difference.
