Wellness CenterNovember/December 2011

Dear Wellness Member,

Welcome to Be Prepared, the November-December 2011 edition of the Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation Wellness Center. Whether you are in the hospital, going to a medical appointment or simply facing the flu season, this edition will help you truly 'be prepared' to deal with whatever comes your way.

Managing your symptoms of Parkinson's at times can be difficult.  Treatment is increasingly complex with so many medicines available (this is a good thing!), so many ways to take them and the uniqueness of each individual.  Be prepared to take control of your medical situation. Understanding your disease, symptoms and treatment is the first step to taking control.  The next step is to organize your information using a system that helps both you and your provider.

So get out that 3 ring binder dedicated to your care and store the worksheets described below as you complete them.

  • Be Prepared.  These steps will help you get the best care, whether you are admitted to a hospital or simply seeing your doctor in clinic. Take the steps to complete and file these forms.
  • Medication Alert Card- store this in your wallet or purse
  • Are you prepared for the flu season? Get the facts.

Also be sure to visit My Medical Chart for a complete list of forms and worksheets that you can print and use. We encourage you to bring these helpful tools to your support groups and to share these forms with others.

Finally we honor and support all caregivers this November, National Caregiver Month, with Caring for the Caregiver and urge you to do something good for yourself.

Join us as in January as we celebrate the new year with our New Year's Resolution edition.  Until then, have a wonderful holiday season!

Be prepared and be in control,

Monique L. Giroux, MDMonique L. Giroux, MD
