Cognition and Emotion

Our thoughts and mood contribute so much to how we feel, perceive our world around us, and our experience with Parkinson’s. In fact, cognitive function and depression are significant contributors to quality of life for persons with Parkinson’s. Together these problems can affect quality of life as much or even more than movement problems. Mood problems affect the longterm changes of Parkinson's since it changes how you manage, adapt and take control of your disease.

Depression can also be a significant problem for care partners and contribute to caregiver burnout.
